María del Mar Bonet, singer, and composer from the island of Mallorca,
performs the song 'Me Desea' from the album 'El Hechizo de Babilonia' by Luis
Delgado. Luis Delgado is a master of Magrhebian stringed instruments and
a scholar of Al-Andalus music.
El Hechizo
de Babilonia (The Spell
of Babylon) sets to music the poetry of medieval al-Andalus (Moorish Spain)
women. The feminine poetry of al-Andalus, produced in what is now Spanish
territory, in the 11th and 12th centuries, has given Luis Delgado wings to
reach a richer and more ambitious universe. He won the award for the best
new music album of the year 2000 by the SGAE and AIE.
